Putting Greenpoint On The Map

By Lillian Giandolfo

I want to thank all those who have called and written to me this past two weeks. It has been heartwarming to hear from “You”. What I am referring to is Greenpoints Historical Post Card. Many have asked why I chose our Angel of Victory in Winthrop McGoldrick Park. I would like to state there are many reasons. Several being Mrs. Marie Sadowski, her dedication to “The Angel” I will never forget how she rang my bell very late one night. I thought there must be a loss in the family. No, it was not that. The statue in the park has been taken from its pedestal. This to her was a great loss. Mrs. Sadowski can see the park from her window. Her dedication inspired me to choose this particular statue symbolizing what AMERICA stands for. Also all the many events that take place throughout the year.

All who have participated in the past to keep the park a place to sit… to enjoy… to breathe…to watch nature and to those who are now organizing to keep the park as such I commend. When my daughter was a little girl we enjoyed the park and I hope that one day her daughter will and their children. Farfetched I don’t think so. We are living in an age where we must have foresight And so the postcard bearing GREENPOINT, USA is on its way to places far and wide. I have sent cards out to friends in England, Poland, and Italy so far with returned addresses to many of “you” who have already bought cards. Let me know if you hear from them. Call 383-8232
